Answer
There are many steps between Atheist and believer that you seem to have left out. You can be a believer, but not necessarily believe in the conventional sense. You can be an Agnostic, not really sure if you believe or not but willing to consider the possibility. You can believe but choose to turn away out of anger, fear, disgust, a sense of betrayal, of even because you feel estranged or uncared for.brbrYou can believe in the concept of GOD, but completely dismiss your familys, cultures, or peers understanding or what GOD is! You can believe in the Concept of GOD, but you may believe that GOD is actually something to be feared or avoided. brbrI believe in the concept of a spiritual mentor, but I do not necessarily subscribe to the quotHomogenized Word of GOD.quot The collection of books popularly known as the Bible I know too much about the history, political intrigue, manipulations foisted upon the quotchurchquot for personal and even pragmatic at the time reasons. We are too quick to put our ancestors up on pedestals where they cannot bother us or influence us, and too eager to white wash anything that seems controversial or inconvenient. It is also a peculiar form of arrogance to believe that another culture has no knowledge of what we call GOD simply because they have different cultural traditions or call our common spiritual mentor by a different name. brbrSince I am neither an Atheist or Believer however, you could say that I am a seeker! I believe that there is a spiritual existence and that I need to have a certain amount of spiritual maturity to exist in it. I believe that the spiritual realm is a purer form of reality than the playpen we are currently being nurtured in, and that I not only need to learn to play well with others before I am allowed into it, I also need to be able to be good for something. Its as simple as electricity really. I am either part of the circuit, or I am the short or the open that threatens everyone! I believe that I have made my best deal with GOD as I understand the concept and that I am doing my best to prepare for the time when I will graduate from this existence, and hopefully be ready to learn to live as a real soul. I also believe that there is a real possibility that I can still be misled, mistaken, or misdirected, and that I have to be constantly questioning and evaluating everything I believe.brbrThen again, I believe that the reason we dont see ghosts so often anymore, is that they are being grounded out by all of the modern wiring we put into houses. Quaint huh?
